How do nonprofit organizations react to downturns in the marketplace in the short- and long-term? This seminar will discuss the financial priorities and processes nonprofits put into place to respond to this possibly unprecedented time of uncertainty and change. It will look at specific tools and analysis to answer the difficult questions necessary to make critical operational and strategic decisions. these include:

  • Boards’ fiduciary responsibility to request and expect financial information
  • Management’s response, including contingency plans
  • Using annual and one-time budgeting processes to identify revenue gaps and designing a plan to close them
  • Forecasting as a critical tool to analyze the extent of the problem and the impact of the solution
  • Understanding your balance sheet and its role, and integrating cash flow into the discussion
  • Once your decision is made, what happens next? We will look at how to measure the impact of organizational changes on your nonprofit’s ability to fulfill its mission
  • Finally, we will discuss communicating your organizational response with stakeholders.
